    Which AirPods do I have?

    Three ways to check, from quickest to most certain. Take a minute — AirPods cases look almost identical from a distance, and the differences that matter are millimetres.

    First, the thing most people miss. A protective case fits your charging case, not your earbuds. Two generations can share the same earbuds and still need different covers, because the case changed shape, moved the speaker holes or swapped the charging port. So it's the case you need to identify.
    Method 1 — Ask your iPhone

    The fastest way, and it names the model in plain English. Your AirPods need to be connected.

    02 Tap your AirPods where they appear near the top of the list
    03 Scroll to About and read Model Name

    Method 2 — Look under the lid

    Open the charging case and turn it so you can see the underside of the lid. There's fine print there, including a model number starting with A. This is the number that decides which cover fits — match it below.

    Model numbers as published by Apple. AirPods Max has no charging case, so it isn't listed here.

    Method 3 — Look at the earbuds

    Not definitive, but it narrows things down fast.

    Silicone ear tips — it's a Pro. The tall, narrow case belongs to Pro 1; a wider case with a lanyard loop on the side is Pro 2 or Pro 3.
    Long stems, no tips — AirPods 1 or 2, in the tall narrow case.
    Short stems, no tips — AirPods 3, 4, or 5 in the wider, squatter case.
    Lightning or USB-C matters. AirPods Pro 2 was sold with both. The cases are near-identical to look at, but the port cutout sits differently — check the bottom of your case before you order.
    "AirPods 3" and "AirPods Pro" are not the same thing. They came out around the same time and the earbuds look similar in photos, but the cases are different sizes. If yours have silicone tips, you have a Pro.
    Serial number won't help you. The long code under the lid is for warranty and support. The number you want is the shorter one starting with A.
